Technologies
As technology continues to advance, artificial intelligence has become prevalent through machine learning and automated decision-making. There is an opportunity to use this technology, including AI to ensure that there is an opportunity to establish continuously evolving technological systems that facilitate peacebuilding.
Due to the ingrained technology in our lives there are various amounts of data, including social media data, spatial data, among other sociodemographic data. This data can be used to better understand localized and nationalized contexts that can inform solutions to address environmental challenges and that can be used to resolve social conflicts.
Data collection through satellite imagery, among other data spatial data, offer a more comprehensive picture of environmental trends as they relate to specific locations.
Improving technologies are allowing for interconnection between a wider range of objects and devices. Environmental peacebuilding can utilize this growing “Internet of Things” to improve monitoring practices. Practitioners can take advantage of new sensing technologies and mobile apps to get fast and accurate information on important project indicators.
There is a large and growing range of tools that environmental peacebuilding practitioners can use to aid their efforts. Technologies to support project and data management including, geographic information systems (GIS), cadasters, decision support systems, modelling software, and descriptive and prescriptive analytics, can support efforts in monitoring and evaluation and provide practitioners with important early warnings to help inform proactive project management.
The majority of the people worldwide are connected on social media, and these platforms offer a wealth of information that can be mined to better inform solutions to pressing social challenges.
